Who is FOWS? The Friends of Westbrook School is YOU.

Founded in 1999, the Friends of Westbrook School Foundation, Inc. (FOWS) is a 501(c)(3) organization that raises funds for school improvements that do not fall within the expenditure guidelines of the PTA and are not included in Montgomery County Public School (MCPS) spending plans.

The Friends of Westbrook represents the best of Westbrook: who we are and what we believe.  We are pay-it-back and pay-it-forward friends of the school who value education and its impact on our quality of life.

Working with PTA and school leadership, current Westbrook families and surrounding neighbors and businesses, the FOWS Foundation Board determines what improvements are of greatest concern to the Westbrook community. Past projects have included: a security system upgrade, Promethean Boards and ELMO projectors, a full suite of playground equipment, and overall grounds and drainage enhancement.

In 2013, in conjunction with the opening the new classroom wing and gymnasium at Westbrook Elementary, FOWS Foundation raised funds to underwrite the costs of an outdoor courtyard and necessary repairs to Westbrook’s All-Purpose Room. This year, FOWS is funding an exciting initiative to update the Westbrook Media Center.  Guided by Universal Design for Learning (UDL) experts, FOWS is underwriting a refresh of the media center with the goal of creating an enhanced and engaging physical space that can serve all learners.
